Photographic Documentary

Documentary photography is when a photo is taken and edited in such a way as to inform you about the main objective of the photo. For example, a photo of a destroyed Berlin in 1944 will show us, the future, the effect of WW2 on Germany as a piece of raw evidence. Documentary photography helps society to remember history as primary evidence and what it is about. Therefore influencing many beliefs and ideologies in our society.

Eugene Atget is a photographer which I would choose for my historical project as his style of photography puts a lot of emphasis on the dramatic atmosphere of his photo creates, he achieves such thing by taking a wide shot of a rustic urban location or object from an angle which reduces its exposure and increases the shadow volumes of the main object in the photo, also its sepia filter over the photo emphasizes even more on the feeling of non-modern aspect, this features altogether make up any photo look as an original victorian or 30s photo. This effect will be very suitable as I am trying to achieve, however, for its filter and color saturation I will use the 70s, Geoffrey Unsworth.

The Pantheon,1924, is a photo made by Eugene which I have founded very interesting and enjoyable, The low exposure in this picture is a little bit lower than the human pov, however, that is due to the limited technology of Eugene's era, even though, it still feels as if Eugene was trying to get the realistic point of view of a normal pass by person and what feeling did this location with low light left onto the walk-by person. Eugene has achieved this feeling by taking a wide shot, in order to imitate a person's FOV, at an eye level with a low ISO while maybe the natural light of the evening.

The color pallet of the sepia filter, it is made up of brown, white, and black therefore making Eugene's sepia filer usual for the time this photo was taken, even though Eugene's coloring is common at his time, it still uniquely creates a more realistic view of the past due to context of his photos, which is everyday scenery and objects of the past, links very well with the old and dull color pallet, which leads to a more realistic feeling and understanding of the history of the past.

Self- Identity and Target Audience

Self - identity

Online identity is parallel with his brother's "real identity", this separation is conveyed that people act differently and show so of their imaginary identity online due to being a free place where they and we can safely express and behave rather than in real life.
  • Online disinhibition - This is a phenomenon where people act completely differently than how they are in real life due to the safety of their screen.
  • Toxic disinhibition - when someone becomes so-called a troll online, just to annoy or try to harm the expression of others.
  •  Being disinhibition - this is one of the biggest problems with the internet is that people, copy and adapt their identity to what they see on the internet, mainly commercialized content.
In this Pegeou advertisement, the subjects which have caught my eye are the black women and the futuristic aesthetic of the car. This ad tries to persuade people by putting a black woman, which from her aspect looks like she is part of the new progressive culture movement and trend, these two features which the subject maintains are topics that are mostly looked up by Gen Z and further on generations, therefore, attracting them by putting something that they like and are aware of it. This advertisement attracts two types of audiences, ordinary black people and people who are of an upper-working class, in their early 20s or 30s, both female and male gender or even the new non-binary due to her neutral gender aspect.
This futuristic advertisement has reflected only my attraction for futuristic and unique car designs but has not even touched my attention on what is attractive to a female. I would say that it would be better to change the advertisement and just showcase the design of the car and maybe add some elements of the new-gen audience but not too obvious or strong on their beside so that it doesn't bounce off people from other audiences who dislike this new-gen audience.

One of the subjects which have caught my eye at first glance is the woman leaning on the car in a provocative position, in this advertisement, the Lexus car products are being showcased to attract mostly male audiences of any age and socio-economic group, Lexus uses the theory of male gaze and voyeurism to convince men to buy their product or at least catch the brand's awareness. Lexus's target audience is usually men in their 30s and 40s due to being a well-known casual street car that could be used for daily life and family travel, however, Lexus attempts to also attract their main audience of fathers but also expand its tentacles down to young men by using a shared factor by both demographics. The model is a white woman in her early 20s dressed in a red skirt that exposes as much skin as possible to entertain the male gaze. In this advertisement, my theory of attractiveness for the opposite sex is reflected in its peek, therefore, catching my attention to observe the ad.
One problem with this advertisement is that the products are not shown fully therefore not really presenting the product leaving the audiences quite confused and non-caring about the brand.

In this Suzuki advertisement, a major point that caught my eye is the man which is presented as an ideal model of man achievement in the social-economic scheme and also caught my eye by being related to my masculine identity, therefore trying to tempt me to buy or be interested into the car due to me relating to the ad's model. The audience which is targeted in this advertisement, are men in their late 30s which are part of the socio-economic's upper-class and working-class men. This advertisement has reflected my idea of what an attractive man looks like and what presence we should have in society. I would say that this advertisement only needs to improve on the vibrance of its looks and make the man much bigger as is quite small and has a small chance of being detected by bypass people.

BMW's advertisement is consistent with only one main subject and that is what it seems a close-up of a somewhat skin-exposing woman getting felt by two hands whose source is out of frame making us drive our minds in dirty thinking. BMW tries to persuade, in this advertisement, mainly male audiences by using their male gaze voyeurism technique which is common among highly commercial brand advertisements. In this advertisement, the target audience is males mainly the working class as the line tries to convey you to buy second-hand BMW cars. The white skin, young, and clean skin women do appeal to my theory of attractiveness as a white, European, and working-class man, therefore, catching my interest and attention for a second. I would say that in order for BMW's advertisement to be better I would suggest at least 10% screen placement of a product to point out because just like this, this advertisement could be misunderstood as an adult media text.

SNAP BACK TO REALITY.

Target audience helps, me to see what features to focus on due to being suitable for my audience's wants. An easy method to find a target audience would be covered in these 5 steps.

1. Collecting data- Starting by looking at media outlets that are familiar to you and digging into quantitative data. Two places where you can locate audience information are Google Analytics and YourCRM

2.  Identify the interest- Once you have collected the data and you have a good brief you must identify what the interests of the audience are and what they crave, such as example could topics, themes, styles, content and etc... anything which would answer the following questions.

  • What problems were they trying to solve?
  • What pain points did they encounter with other solutions they tried?
  • What did they find most useful about your product or service?
3. Round up the dislikes and like-  To see if your data is valuable, inspect the numeric feedback that the audience has left so you know if they really enjoyed that type of video and if not, how many people don't like it.

4. Round the characteristics up To make a target audience you must imagine it as a real-life person with characteristics which they show in common, therefore depicting the perfect person for your contentment.

Audience research

According to my data and research, have put together the so-called "Audience body" of my target audience. For the demographic, I have aimed low as 14 due to the fact the wave of young students of both genders who have discovered the world of martial arts through social media or mainstream topics around them, also the range aims as old as 30 because once in this world of sportsmanship there are elements which are found in common in preferred media texts no matter of the age.

For the psychographics of my audience, I have used my own mind as I am closely bonded to this type of sports audience, therefore I have put down what I thought we share in common when it comes to our likes and dislikes and also challenges which my comrades and I experienced throughout of the life of a martial artist.

For the Media channel, I have selected the channels whose target audience are the ones of mine except they have a larger expansion on more audience due to their diversification in sports media.

BRAZILIAN JU-JITSU

History- The art of Brazilian jujitsu can root back to the era of feudalist Japan, the legendary warriors "Samurai" used such martial art in combat when in the situation of being unarmed or in close areas where their deadly "katana" won't be suitable.
With the collapse of Feudalist Japan in 1871, a wave of Westernisation came over pushing the arts of the Samurai and also Martial Arts out of the mainstream culture of Japan, therefore forcing dojos to close and shut down.

The year is 1882, and an old practitioner of old-school Jujitsu didn't want such art and fighting style to be wiped from the culture of Japan. Jigoro Kano founded his martial Art school called Kodak-an has developed a different branch of ju-jitsu called Judo, this martial art was created of techniques Kano decided were efficient in actual combat Jujitsu. This movement upkeep not only the reputation of jujitsu but also created a different branch called Judo.

In 1914, one of Kano's students, Mitsuo Maeda, traveled to Brazil on a business trip, Mitsuo was more of a ground fighter, therefore sticking more to the Ju-jitsu style of fighting than the new judo. He met a business partner "Gustavo Gracie" he had a son who was a bullied teenager and who was also weak, his name is "Carlos Gracie".
Carlos Gracie is now the father of Brazilian Ju-jitsu, practicing "newaza", which is the ground style of Judo, with Mitsuo. Carlson and his family have started to study Newaza and Judo, therefore, creating and establishing Brazilian Ju-jitsu.

As a family sport, BJJ was quite remote from the outside world except in Brazil, however, once with the immigration of Rorian Gracie to the USA, Rorian had a chance to show off his family sport, which is the art of Brazilian Ju-jitsu, at the upcoming televised event UFC 1. Rorian, therefore, has shown his talent and brutal executions against many common styles of fighting such as boxing, kickboxing, and Taekwondo. Rorian Gracie dominates in the octagon which makes him the first-ever champion of UFC. Such big events caused BJJ to be injected into the mainstream media causing people all around the world to study and practice it.
Synopsis- The making of ju-jitsu was invented by early Japanese Samurais to combat armored enemies while being unarmed, with the blunt force of a kick and punch, Ju-jitsu uses the physics forces such as leverage, momentum, grip pressure, and the mass of another opponent in order to through him or put the opponent into a submissive position allowing you to execute via choke or broken limb.

Fighter- Charles deBrox Olivera is a Brazilian MMA fighter who puts the MMA fighters to the test by using his high-level BJJ field, therefore, representing the martial art of BJJ. Charles Olivera's character is the full face of this national gentle martial art, his energetic and charismatic behavior and character embody the culture of Brazil, and his flexibility and amazing technique show the face of pure Ju-Jitsu.

WRESTLING/FREESTYLING MODERN

History- the original Greco-Roman wrestling fights can be traced back to 3000 BC into the peninsulas of Greece. Greco-Roman Wrestling is one the oldest sport and the biggest combat names in the Olympics origin, such martial art was part of the Olympics since 308 BC however with the shutting down there comes the dark age of wrestling, however, the sport gets back to life by being restored and re-programmed in 1896 by the French. Once with the reinvention and the hosting of the first modern Olympics with Carl Schuhmann as the first wrestling championship, by 1908 GR Wrestling\Freestyle was a regular sport at the Summer Games.

The origins of the modern version of such a beautiful sport of both technique\strength date to 1848 by a French soldier, Jean Exbrayat. Jean was showcasing his "flat hand wrestling" style at events and exhibitions.
With this type of sport style getting awareness in Europe, the French Sports Administration named it French Wrestling, however later on a modern Italian Wrestler, Basilio Bartoleti. has used the term Greco-Roman to describe the roots and nature of modern Wrestling, however, the practice of old wrestling was way much weirder and brutal than how we practice it now.

Synopsis- The art of worldwide wrestling from any time is to take down the opponent by using 50/50 between your critical thinking and brute power.
For Wrestling the rules are that you're meant to throw or immobilize your opponent without using your legs as trips or grapple of the opponent's leg, therefore causing most of your upper body to do the heavy work. Such strict rules on the below-the-waist game make the sport tilting to a more physical and brute force as you need your lift power and muscle explosively to down the person while their base (legs) are still connected to the ground.
Freestyling is a sport where restricted practices are more eased allowing you to create techniques that take more problem-solving and the laws of force in order to smartly wipe the enemy's heavy base (legs), such allowance of these techniques makes the sport much more of a half problem solving and brute force.

Fighter - the supernatural fighter Yoel Romeo which also known to the world as the "solider of God" due to his spread of god's word, Yoel Romeo is one the most dangerous wrestlers in the UFC due to his incredible body conditioning and strength however his professional wrestling background backs him up by a lot due to increasing his battle IQ which is the most essential weapon in the world of martial arts.

MUAY THAI

History- The art of the 8 limbs so-called Muay Thai has been created and practiced since the 13th century by the Thai army for the defense of the Sukohaithai dynasty and the Thai Kingdom, the purpose of such martial art was to teach the troops unarmed combat and blows that purpose was to break and kill the enemy, also it is believed that Muay Thai had a brother, a martial art which was the armed combat version called Krabi Krabong. Before the term Muay Thai, the sport of 8 limbs was called Muay Boran, before the institutionalization in the 1930s by the sports committee. Muay Boran was a more brutal version of Muay Thai consisting of some illegal moves and rules by today's modern Muay Thai.

The word Muay Boran in the 17th century was started by a gladiatorial-like game by the Burmese emperor for a Buddhist celebration, the participants of such a deadly tournament were prisoners that were enslaved from their homes once with the conquering of their land. Among many diverse fighters, there was a Siam slave who has about to make a name not only for himself but also for his martial art, Nai Khanom Tom was a slave from the captured ex-capital of Thailand, Ayutthaya. Nai Khamon was dominating against foreign slaves and Burmese fighters by using his foreign concepts of the use of elbows and knees showing what Muay Thai was about.

The modernization of the Muay Boron in Muay Thai comes from the 1700s with the exploration of two French brothers who were going around the world asking for fights to participate when coming against a famous Thai fighter with incredible strength (Muen Phlaan) spreading awareness not continentally but worldwide.
Also, it comes to hand that once participated in global events in Thailand, King Rama VII created the 1900s, western style boxing rings for Muay Thai and boxing competitions, therefore, starting the wave of foreign and modernization of Muay Thai.

Synopsis- Muay Thai is the art of using all "8" limbs against your opponents, techniques such as elbow strikes, which force is a combination between blunt and cutting force, and knee blows to the ribs cage with a force of a sledgehammer, all of these body parts mentioned in the hits are what they see as the 4 extra limbs which are put in combination with clinching and grappling.

Fighter - Baukaw Banchmek, is a literal God in the world of Muay Thai with kicks that demolish palm trees and techniques accurate as a bullet, Baukaw was dominating in the modern world of Muay Thai nationally and internationally however all of this is paid to the touch and traditional Thai fight gym which was Buakaw life since he was 7, Baukaw intensive and hard work was unusual toward most of the fighters but this uniqueness made him the God of Muay Thai.

BOXING

History- Boxing is a sport that needs no introduction or description of it due to its modern mainstream sports culture however neither passive nor active audience don't know where this beautiful but deadly sport came from, well in today's text we are gonna go down to its early existence in ancient Greece

Boxing is such a natural sport to human nature that it is impossible to say that someone created it or established it at "a specific time", making it a little bit untraceable however its first evidence of covered fist fighting competitions could be seen in a Minoan Crete vases which shows men fighting with armored helmets and solid metal objects coving their fists or, in other vases, fists covered with ropes. The thought of fighting with solid and tough equipment in boxing or any other combat sport is long erased from our modern minds however this style of equipment was no trouble in 1500 BCE, however, the formal version of boxing is first seen in the 23rd Ancient Olympian event in 688 BCE where there were no rounds in the ancient times and the only ways a match would finish was until till the opponent accepts defeat or unable to fight no more, although its brutality rules such as no clinching, which technique is practiced now, its is straight up forbidden for the ancient time's
rules. The Greek population has denounced such sports as the most injurious among Greek sports leading boxing to get the summary "a boxer's victory is gained by blood" in a piece of 1st-century scripture.

Now a jump to modern boxing started in 1681 with the London Theater as they set pugilists to come and fight bare-knuckle till the opponent accepts defeat, such sport was supported and maintained in the entertainment department by the commissions of betting which pushed many fighters to come and demonstrate their talents due to earning a piece of bread, therefore starting the bare-knuckle era. Boxing matches at that time were illegal to be held however with its society's acceptance of such entertainment, boxing was leading more to be seen as not only entertaining but also a sport once with the first champion James Figg who's one of the pupils Jack Broughton earned an athletic endeavor title and also taking the first steps to establish boxing as a sport in 1743 with a set of rules which were modified in 1838 dramatically due to death accidents, these set of rules where the first formal regulations which were called the London prizefighter ring rules which didn't allow grappling or hitting below the waist.

Once the increased in popularity, set the final touches to set boxing as a full legitimate sport was the upbringing of the Queensbury rules in 1867 by the Amateur Athletic Union, making boxing the beauty which we have today, once which such set of rules boxing got spread all over the world leading competitions and big money is involved in this scene. Once all the governmental problems went away boxing has been spread around the world, which inspired people to study it and practice it in order to have their shot at worldwide championships.

Synopsis-  Boxing is a martial art where fists are the only weapons. Jabs, crosses, hooks and uppercuts are the bullets for your arms, although kicking is not allowed the legs are the number 1 essential of boxing due to not only helping your move around but also creating a kinetic chain in your body which is released when punching creating a knockout punch.

fighters - The most feared figure in the boxing world is no one other than "Iron" Mike Tyson, a fighter who brought so much attention due to the off-world character that seems like it was furnished by demons. Their poor childhood and tough environment in Brooklyn made him one of the most impressive fighters with amazing technicality and aggressiveness which scared grown men away from his way. Mike's punching power was so strong, he could put a bull to sleep with a haymaker, with features like this he had dominated the hell of heavyweight boxing.
